Meowdoku Rules: How to Play

Updated · Based on 3 official and cited sources

Meowdoku's board is split into colored sections. Place exactly one cat in each section, and never put two cats in the same row or column or next to each other, not even diagonally. Double-tap a tile to place a cat. You have 3 hearts, and every wrong cat costs one, so prove each move instead of guessing.

Everything on this page comes from Oakever Games’ own App Store and Google Play listings, checked on October 19, 2026. We note where those listings stop, instead of filling the gaps with guesses.

What are the rules of Meowdoku?

Oakever sums the game up as Sudoku-style reasoning mixed with Minesweeper-style deduction. The listings give three rules:

Rule What it means on the board
One cat per section The board is divided into colored sections, and each section must hold exactly one cat.
No shared rows or columns Two cats can never sit in the same row or in the same column.
No touching Cats need their own space: no two cats may be next to each other, including diagonally.

A puzzle is finished when every colored section has its cat and none of the three rules is broken.

How do you place a cat?

According to both store listings, you double-tap a tile to put a cat on it. The listings don’t describe any other controls, such as what a single tap does.

How do hearts work?

You get 3 hearts, which Oakever describes as three chances to make a mistake. Place a cat on the right tile and you keep going; place it on a wrong tile and you lose a heart. Oakever’s own advice in the listing is blunt: guessing won’t save you, so every move should be worked out first. Our Meowdoku tips show how to do that.

The listings don’t say what happens after the third mistake.

What are Daily Puzzles and leaderboards?

Oakever promises brand-new Daily Puzzles every day, and global leaderboards that rank the fastest completion times. The listings don’t give the time a new daily puzzle appears.

Can you play offline?

Yes. Both listings say no internet connection is needed. The game is free with ads; see Meowdoku Premium and ads for the paid options.

What do the mouse, the pencil and the other buttons do?

Many players search for this, but Oakever hasn’t explained these tools in its App Store listing, its Google Play listing or on its website (checked October 19, 2026). Every App Store update note since September reads only “Bug fixes and performance improvements.” Rather than guess, we’re leaving these tools out until Oakever describes them.

The official places to ask are the help screens inside the app and the support address in the App Store listing, support@oakevergames.com.

Is it the same as Star Battle or Queens?

The three rules above are the rules of the classic one-star Star Battle logic puzzle, and LinkedIn’s daily Queens puzzle uses the same set. Meowdoku’s boards, cats, hearts and daily puzzles are Oakever’s own. If you want to practice the same kind of logic in a browser, our free Cat Zones puzzle uses these rules too; it is a separate game, not Meowdoku.

What hasn’t Oakever explained yet?

  • Board sizes and difficulty levels: not listed.
  • What happens when you run out of hearts: not listed.
  • The mouse, pencil, hint and “pattern mode” features players ask about: not described in the listings or on Oakever’s website.
