Enshrouded 1.0 Changes: Everything New Since Early Access
Enshrouded 1.0 came out on Steam on October 15, 2026, ending Early Access. It opens the full map with the new Cinder's Cradle biome, concludes the main story, raises the level cap to 50 (gear 55), adds nine spells and the Sparkworks logic system, and resets your skill tree. Hotfixes 1.0.0.1 and 1.0.0.2 followed on October 15 and 16.
Summarized from Keen Games’ official Steam posts: the full 1.0 changelog (October 14), the September combat preview and the first two hotfixes.
When did Enshrouded 1.0 come out?
| Date (2026) | What happened |
|---|---|
| June 25 | Keen revealed the October 15 release date |
| October 14 | Release trailer and full changelog |
| October 15 | 1.0 released, plus Hotfix 1.0.0.1 (version 1267041) |
| October 16 | Hotfix 1.0.0.2 (version 1269579) |
What happens when you load an old save?
- Your skill tree is reset. Spend your points again before leaving your base.
- Custom key bindings are reset to the defaults because new features needed new mappings.
- Saves are converted. Older saves are backed up first, then migrated to a new, smaller save format automatically.
- Local or Steam Cloud: character and world menus now have a tab for each, so check both if something seems missing.
Early Access saves work, but Keen strongly encourages a fresh start because the world and the first hours changed so much. More in the launch FAQ.
What’s new in the world and story?
- The full map is open. The new biome, Cinder’s Cradle, lies in the north past the gates beyond the Veilwater Basin: a lava wasteland of ruins below, floating islands raised by the Ancients above. Keen puts its size between Blackmire and Veilwater Basin, with 12 new Shroud Roots.
- Edge-of-map areas, mostly in Springlands, Blackmire and Kindlewastes, add quests and 6 more Shroud Roots.
- Two more Hollow Halls opened, in the Albaneve Summits and Veilwater Basin, and the main quest now leads into long-locked structures in older biomes.
- The story wraps up. Keen says 1.0 concludes the story of Embervale for the time being, while the Shroud and the Fell remain.
- Flame progression: a new Flame Level before Cinder’s Cradle raises the Flame Altar limit to 15, and Flame Level 11 raises it to 16. A new survivor who specializes in Ancient knowledge joins your base.
- Early game rework: more chests in Springlands and Revelwood, clearer roads and enemy camps, and less grindy recipes.
Most former no-build zones now accept bases, and chests hold gold coins that survivors take for mostly cosmetic items.
What changed in combat?
| Area | 1.0 change |
|---|---|
| Level cap | Player level 50; gear upgrades to level 55 |
| New spells | Mana Drain, Entangle, Pillar of Flames, Blizzard, Ball Lightning, Summon Fire, Ice and Shock Totem, Summon Hollow Skeleton |
| Eternal gear | Every spell has an Eternal version that uses no charges; Eternal spells and arrows can be upgraded with perks |
| Wands | Piercing heavy attack, unlockable aerial and evasion attacks, optional free aim, better targeting |
| New skills | Aerial Wand Attack, Wand Evasion Attack, Advanced Necromancy, Totem Mastery, Blast and Cast, Puncture, Barrage, Survival Instinct |
| Aim assist | New ranged settings; on by default for controllers, off for mouse and keyboard |
| Enemies | 37 new enemy types and variants, 14 of them in the new faction; better pathfinding and hearing |
| Retrying fights | Enemies regain health gradually after you leave combat instead of resetting instantly |
| Shroud time | Stacked time extensions are weaker, but hourglass capsules are far more common and give about 70% more time |
The Albaneve Summits boss had its health substantially reduced and gained a wider arena with grappling anchors and an exhausted phase that gives melee players an opening.
What changed for building and bases?
- Sparkworks, a logic system that links inputs such as levers and pressure plates to outputs such as doors and traps, set up in a 2D graph editor. Keen suggests puzzles, trap dungeons, parkour and arenas to share through Adventure Sharing.
- Airborne Architect, a new skill in the center of the tree that lets you build while flying freely.
- Storage chests can be upgraded or turned into magic chests in place without emptying them, and chests and map markers can be named.
- A late-game gem forge station, more craftable props, faster farm animals, shorter plant growth times, and cheaper armor, Flame level and spell charge recipes.
What quality-of-life changes came with 1.0?
- Hold the interact button to collect scattered loot nearby, or set it to happen automatically.
- Switch between classic and new, more realistic body proportions at character creation or at the Barber.
- Every fish can be caught in any water with the right bait and a strong enough rod.
- Fast travel while sleeping in a bed, HUD visibility settings, a configurable updraft, and a camera-inertia setting for motion sickness.
- Hosts can promote or demote players individually, and a new Automatic setting scales enemy numbers to the party nearby.
- After Flame Level 11 (or a lower level chosen in world settings), Flame Altars can push back the Shroud.
What changed in graphics, sound and performance?
Keen said in August that a key 1.0 goal was better performance, including on lower and mid-range PCs. The changelog lists a new “brick renderer” that keeps distant terrain and voxel builds detailed, cheaper point light shadows for large bases, lower memory use, faster shader compilation after updates, HDR support, and better performance on handhelds, low-end graphics cards and the Steam Deck.
Lore notes and letters are now narrated in English, German and Chinese, with a playlist for queuing them, and the main crafting survivors and quest givers are voiced in the same languages.
What did the 1.0 hotfixes fix?
| Hotfix | Date | Main fixes |
|---|---|---|
| 1.0.0.1 | Oct 15 | Random crashes, crashes from some PC peripherals, indoor brightness problems, multiplayer session lists; Fire Wisp scroll fixed at level 27; updated artbook and world map in the Deluxe Upgrade Pack |
| 1.0.0.2 | Oct 16 | World settings couldn’t be edited (caused by 1.0.0.1); crash during save migration; grey fog on Nvidia cards; crashes with factories, fast travel, gliders, Adventure Sharing, water and quitting; skill names in several languages |
Still open:
- Missing character after migration: 1.0.0.2 stops the crash, but corrupted character saves are skipped for now. Keen says a fix that migrates and repairs them is coming.
- Sound with master volume below 100%: reverb problems, and game sounds that dip during lore narration misbehave. Until a fix, Keen suggests leaving the master slider at 100% and lowering the volume in Windows.
What hasn’t been announced yet?
- The next patch date: 1.0.0.2 only says more skill descriptions arrive in the next patch.
- More voice-over languages: planned, with no date.
- Cross-platform play: in the works, with no estimate.
- Tumbleweeds: removed from the Nomad Highlands until glitches and performance issues are solved.
New achievements came with the new biome; see the achievements list. Platform and PC questions are in the launch FAQ, and all guides are on the Enshrouded hub.
