Planet Zoo 2 Animal List: Every Species Frontier Has Revealed
Frontier says Planet Zoo 2 launched on October 13, 2026 with over 130 animals, including fully aquatic species and flying birds for the first time in the series. Its official Steam posts and store page name 110 of them, listed below by reveal date. Not every species was announced on Steam, so the official Zoopedia has the complete roster.
How many animals are in Planet Zoo 2?
Frontier’s launch post on October 13 says the game features over 130 animals. Frontier’s Steam posts and the Steam store page name 110 species, all listed below. That isn’t the whole roster: the first Steam post in this list, on July 14, was already adding more animals to an existing Zoopedia, and on October 6 Frontier said the final reveals would come on its website. For the complete roster, use the official Zoopedia, which Frontier says covers every animal and how to care for it.

Which animals were revealed in other posts?
These 14 species never appeared in a Zoopedia drop on Steam but are confirmed in other official posts or on the store page:
| Species | First named | Where |
|---|---|---|
| African leopard | July 16 | Animal Spotlight |
| Indo-Pacific leopard shark | July 30 | Animal Spotlight |
| Shoebill | August 13 | Animal Spotlight, described as a franchise debut |
| Sumatran orangutan | September 10 | Animal Spotlight |
| Golden poison frog | September 15 | Keeper Talks |
| Western chimpanzee | September 16 | Keeper Talks; also named on the store page |

| Lion | - | Steam store page |
| Hawksbill turtle | - | Steam store page |
| Secretarybird | - | Steam store page |
| African penguin | October 16 | Update 1.0.5 notes (a bug fix) |
Frontier’s September 18 Keeper Talks video featured Chester Zoo’s Sumatran tigers as habitat inspiration, but the post doesn’t say the species is in the game, so it isn’t counted here.
Which animals are aquatic or flying?
Frontier’s posts don’t label the habitat type for most species. The ones they do name:
- Fully aquatic (aquariums): Blacktip reef shark and Red lionfish (Awesome Aquatics Feature Focus), Hawksbill turtle (store page), and the Javanese cownose ray, which Frontier calls an aquatic creature.
- Fully flying birds (aviaries): Toco toucan and Secretarybird (store page).
Are any animals exclusive to pre-orders or DLC?
Frontier repeatedly promoted a Bonus Content Pack for pre-purchases, and update 1.0.5 fixed the Zoopedia wrongly showing DLC animals as locked for DLC owners. None of the posts name which species are in the pack or in DLC.
What hasn’t been announced yet?
- A full species list on Steam: some species, including the final reveals, were announced only on Frontier’s website and other channels.
- Bonus Content Pack and DLC species: not named in the posts.
- Future animals: Frontier says the roster will keep growing after launch, but hasn’t named species or dates.
