What did update 1.0.5 change?
Frontier apologized that Franchise Mode and general stability fell below what it expects, and said player numbers were well above its expectations. The key changes:
- More stable loading of Franchise zoos, especially new and flat zoos.
- New Edge Scrolling option in Keyboard and Mouse settings.
- Several settings now save after you close and relaunch the game.
- The Zoopedia no longer marks DLC animals as inaccessible for DLC owners.
- Creating a Taiga sandbox or Franchise map no longer sometimes picks a Wildlife Reserve as the sculpted terrain.
| Area | Main fixes |
|---|---|
| Stability | Less texture pop-in; crashes with the Ecosystem Brush in the Tanzania Reserve and with duplicate keybindings; false complexity warning at 100% complexity |
| Career | Softlocks in Nordic Fjords (Moon Jelly Exhibit), Great Rift Valley (giraffe Quick Release disabled) and East Africa (Animal Trading during the Shoebill dialogue); boxed animals in the Sumatra Reserve |
| Franchise | Wildlife Reserves charging the wrong Conservation Credits; better male/female balance in the trading market and in births |
| Animals | First climbing animation improvements; adults flagged as juveniles; fish stuck outside moved aquariums; shoals now use expanded aquarium space; African penguins no longer walk on water |
| Management | Inspection reports giving only 4 stars when every aspect scored 5; vets stuck removing dead animals from aquariums |
| Construction and UI | Basic Vet Surgery moving when placed; path width in feet; ESC after nature brushes; HDR calibration image; gamepad fixes |
| Steam Deck | Fixed being unable to connect to the server on Proton 11 and newer |
What did update 1.0.4 change?
The first post-launch patch went live on October 14 from 2PM BST. Key changes:
- Fixes for several factors behind Franchise Mode instability, and more animals available in early Franchise trading.
- FSR and DLSS now work when selected in the Graphics menu.
- Custom keybindings no longer reset when opening the Hub, Animal Trading or Animal Storage.
- Audio distortion when cycling heatmap tabs fixed, along with several crashes.

| Area | Main fixes |
|---|---|
| Stability | Crashes with scenery groups, quick Hub exits and multi-selected blueprints; an undo hardlock during terrain sculpting |
| Career | Later save slots copying slot 1’s medal total and unlocking levels early; next scenario not unlocking after save and quit; Great Rift Valley audio and cinematic issues |
| Franchise | Juvenile shoals can be listed for trade; Community Challenge panel and reward display fixes |
| Animals | Injuries now show after fights; feeder enrichments show food; juvenile birds no longer stuck in nests in reserves; shoal panels now show social group welfare; updated cohabitation lists |
| Management | Lower interest on low-level loans; reputation and welfare inconsistencies; average donation after the season changes |
| Construction | Default angle snap now 1 degree instead of 15; updated editable areas on several sandbox maps; scale tool with a mouse; new button to remove waterlogged and snow terrain |
| Other | Career-completion avatar costumes; scale keybinding; Ultra preset sets Foliage Detail to Very High |
What is Frontier still working on?
Both updates list the same ongoing areas of focus:
- Animals climbing, jumping and pouncing.
- Animals sometimes not lining up with their enrichments.
- Animals escaping habitats during certain behaviors.
- Animals being boxed too often, including when migrating in wild areas.
- Feedback on the core creative toolset.
- Franchise Mode stability after the fixes.
The 1.0.5 post adds Frontier’s high-priority list: Franchise Mode stability, crashes and performance, save stability and the loss of Conservation Credits, bringing back Planet Zoo features that didn’t deploy correctly (edge scrolling, now added, and exhibit quick sell/release), and erratic animal behavior and animations. Frontier is also investigating feedback on accreditation rating requirements, and said it would start a regularly updated “under investigation” post the week after October 16.
Why can’t you connect to Franchise Mode?
Frontier’s notes point to a few causes:
- VPNs: using one, especially in Franchise Mode, may cause connection issues.
- Usernames: the profanity filter can catch a banned word inside a username and show a server connection error. Frontier asks affected players to raise a ticket with its support team.
- Timeouts: 1.0.5 extended the login window, and Frontier has added server capacity.
- Steam Deck: 1.0.5 fixed connections on Proton 11 and newer.
How do you report a bug?
Use Frontier’s issue tracker. Frontier says reports there help it investigate and fix issues for everyone.
What hasn’t been announced yet?
- The next update’s date: Frontier only says work continues over the coming weeks.
- Exhibit quick sell/release: listed as a priority but not yet restored.
- Accreditation changes: still under investigation.
New players can start with the beginner tips or the animal list. All guides are on the game hub.
