How Scam With Your Friends Works: A Workday From Start to Finish
Scam With Your Friends is a parody co-op game: up to eight players staff a fictional call center and try to talk AI callers into in-game payouts by voice or text. Each workday ends with a boss review, and missing the daily quota gets you fired. Progress, apps and prestige save to three Steam Cloud slots.
This page explains how the game plays, from the fictional setting and a full workday to calls, scam apps, the lottery, boss reviews, saves and lobby privacy. It is based on the Steam store page and the developers’ update notes from October 15 to October 28, checked on November 1, 2026. The game is a parody in which every caller is an AI character, and this page only describes its in-game mechanics.
What is the setting?
The store page sets the joke up plainly. You and your friends run a scam call center in Kolkata, India, under a ruthless boss, and the callers are AI characters you talk to in real time. Every day has a quota: hit it or get fired. Along the way you dodge scambaiters who can infect your computer, and the office suffers viruses, police raids, air strikes and other workplace disasters. You can play alone, with friends or in public lobbies of up to eight players; price and platform questions are answered in our FAQ.
How does a workday in Scam With Your Friends play out?
Pieced together from the store page and update notes, a day runs like this:
- The host picks a mode. The notes mention Campaign and Normal play, a Sandbox mode, and a Frenzy mode marked coming really soon.
- Calls come to your desk. Callers come from a Daily Callers list, with a minimum five-second break between calls.
- You open a scam app. Each scheme is an app with its own steps and payout, and several only pay once you enter a code the AI caller gives you. After 20 seconds on a call without one open, a red reminder now tells you to open a scam app.
- Money flows two ways. You hold personal money, and the team fills a shared quota board. Since update 0.1.92, the boss ranks players by money contributed toward the quota rather than by changes to personal wallets.
- The office fights back. Viruses pop up (Malwarebits removes them), fires need the extinguisher, and coworkers throw props.
- The boss reviews the day. Miss the quota and you are fired; make it and the next day unlocks more. The store page says your arsenal of scams grows each day, and the notes give examples: IP Geolocation arrives on Day 6 and Money Mule on Day 11.
Runs also build toward prestige, shown as a count above player names, though the notes don’t explain its rules.
Who does what in the office?
The store page and notes don’t describe fixed jobs or classes for players. The host chooses the mode, the language for boss commentary, Family-Friendly Mode, whether new players may join mid-day and whether community callers can join the daily queue. The callers are AI personalities, and players can build their own in the Character Creator. The boss, Mr Curry, runs the end-of-day review.
How do calls and speech recognition work?
You talk to callers through the phone, either by speaking or by typing. If your PC can’t run speech recognition, the game warns you and reminds you that typing still works.
As of update 0.1.95, speech recognition offers Whisper Small (456 MB, the default), Whisper Base (141 MB) and Moonshine, which covers English, Arabic, German, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese and Spanish. Optional paid services such as Deepgram and Gladia were added and then removed again. Automatic microphone leveling is on by default, or you can set the level yourself between 50% and 200%.
Caller voices are set per language: you can reorder or disable the Pocket TTS, MOSS TTS Nano and Qwen3 TTS models, or turn them all off so callers reply in text. Qwen3 needs a compatible graphics card.
How do scam apps, upgrades and the lottery work?
Scam apps are bought in an in-game app store with in-game money, and permanent purchases are saved with your progress. The developers rebalance them often; our patch notes page summarizes the earlier updates. Update 0.1.90 made the Credit Card app free with a $200 payout, and priced Gift Cards at $150 with a $400 payout. IP Geolocation, added in 0.1.84, is a guessing game on a globe that pays up to $800 for an accurate answer.
The Fixes and Scam Upgrades update (0.1.73) turned Bitcoin and Meme Coin into push-your-luck rounds. The value climbs toward a randomly timed crash, you can cash out at any point for up to $700, and waiting too long or losing the caller forfeits the round’s unpaid earnings.
Lottery Prize ends with a scratch card. When 0.1.73 reworked it, the developers listed tickets paying $0, $200, $500 or $1,000, with a 5% jackpot chance. Update 0.1.90 reworked the steps that unlock the card and updated the displayed prize amounts, so treat that earlier list as possibly out of date.
What happens in the boss review?
At the end of each day, Mr Curry reviews recorded calls. He picks funny highlights, giving priority to moments from different players, ranks the team, announces newly unlocked apps and prestige completion, and delivers a verdict that can end in a firing. Since 0.1.92 his commentary is generated in the host’s language, and it follows the host’s Family-Friendly setting.
Keeping clips is optional: with Disable Call Saving on, reviews use temporary recordings only, and Stored Media History keeps the newest 10 videos and pictures by default.
Getting fired is common: on November 1, 39% of Steam players had the Your First Firing achievement. The player count page shows how many people are playing right now.
How do saves work?
Update 0.1.83 added Steam Cloud saves for progress, cosmetics, prestige, checkpoints and permanent app purchases, and 0.1.84 added three save files with day and prestige previews. Lifetime achievements, statistics and playtime survive save resets, switches and prestige. Graphics, microphone, language, controls, volume and personal API keys stay on each computer, and since 0.1.90 so do recordings, photos and artwork. The RESET SAVE button erases progress, cosmetics and permanent app purchases.
How do lobby security and Streamer Mode work?
You can join by code or Steam invite link, or browse public lobbies filtered by player count, country, mode and day; everyone needs the same game version. Update 0.1.90 added an Allow mid-day joins setting, which hosts can switch off so newcomers only arrive between shifts, and tightened checks against unauthorized movement, damage, item use and administrative actions.
Streamer Mode, also from 0.1.90, hides other players’ computer screens and screen shares. Family-Friendly Mode does the same and also filters caller conversations and boss narration. Knockdown protection blocks player damage and tackles whenever either player has it switched on.
What mistakes do new players make?
- Talking without an app open. The game now flashes a reminder after 20 seconds.
- Pushing an investment round too far. The crash timing is random.
- Watching your wallet instead of the quota. The boss ranks quota contributions.
- Expecting media in the cloud. Recordings and photos stay on one PC.
- Looking for the in-game browser. Update 0.1.92 removed it.
What hasn’t been announced?
- When Frenzy mode becomes playable.
- Quota amounts, how many days a run lasts, and the exact prestige rules.
- The current Lottery Prize payouts after the 0.1.90 rework.

No. You can speak to callers through speech recognition or type to them, and the game reminds you that typing works if your PC can't run speech recognition.
Does Scam With Your Friends have cloud saves?
